Tamarind curry (Tamarind Saar) | चिंचेचा सार | Chinche che Saar
Ready in 20 minutes
Serves 2-3 people
Ingredients:
- 1 - medium size Onion (chopped)
- 1 - medium size Tomato (chopped)
- 1 cup - Tamarind water
- 3-4 cloves - Garlic (pounded)
- ½ inch - Ginger (pounded)
- 1 tsp - Salt
- ½ cup - Water (if required)
- ½ tsp - Turmeric powder
- ½ tsp - Garam Masala
- 1/4 cup - freshly cut coriander
- 2-3 Green chilies - Optional
- ½ tsp - Hing (Asafoetida) - Optional
Preparation:
- Heat a pan, add oil followed by Hing (Asafoetida).
- Add Onion and saute them.
- Once Onion is translucent (approx. after 5 mins), add Ginger-Garlic and saute.
- Add Tomatoes and saute them for a minute or so.
- Add chilies and cover it for approx. 5-7 mins until everything is well cooked.
- Add coriander, salt, Turmeric powder, & Garam masala. Mix everything well.
- Now, add Tamarind water followed by water (if required). Depending on the family size you can take more tamarind and add tamarind water.
- Let it come to a boil and then transfer it to a serving bowl or keep it aside for few mins and then serve directly.
- Enjoy this easy & delicious Tamarind curry aka Tamarind Saar with a bowl of rice.
Tips:
- Let the Saar (curry) rest for 5 mins so that all the veggies ooze out their flavor.
- Increase/Decrease the quantity depending on your family size.
- If you need more tamarind water, make more of it BUT remember to check tamarind first in order to be sure that it’s not too sour.
- I use organic and local ingredients and they taste delicious while giving a great touch of nutrition.
